Optimism

The significance of the Brooklyn Bridge was mainly Optimism. The bridge was completed in 1883and at the time it was not only the largest building in New York but the United States. It took not only a massive amount of work but knowledge. The bridge was new technology, an innovation in a new country. It expressed only a beginning of what Americans could accomplish. It was a great achievement for American architects. Some called it “selling of the bridge” because it was so grandiose that it attracted people to come to New York. John Perry Barlow wrote “literally and genuinely religious leap of faith”. He described the bridge as this because it was a structure that would break boundaries, a structure never attempted before. The building of the Brooklyn Bridge showed not only knowledge and hard work but the American audacity and persistence.
